Youth in Nairobi’s Kibera slum are being taught to build solar-powered lamps for sale. Kenya is currently rationing its power due to a prolonged drought, and is desperately seeking ways to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and hydropower. This may just be the light at the end of the dark tunnel.

Bizarre Blue Light Spiral over Norway ‘not linked’ to failed Russian missile

Russia’s Defence Ministry says the latest test of its new Bulava intercontinental missile in the White Sea has failed. The announcement comes after Norwegian authorities reported strange spiral lights seen in the arctic sky which sparked a wave of UFO frenzy. But the Russian Defence Ministry have not linked the two incidents.

Here’s my Class of 2009 Graduation Cap for the University of California Berkeley.
It is covered with a small “green town,” complete with a solar power plant and a wind turbine.
The solar panel works, and actually drives the wind turbine. So while not true generation, it helps to demonstrate renewable energy at least.

My Green Home – My Wind Turbine – Air-X 12v Land

My Air-X Land 12V wind turbine is up and running.

Connected to 2 Xrantex portable power packs (65ah batteries and 1500w inverter in each pack), on a good wind day will charge the batteries from dead in less than 12hrs, usually takes 2-3 days in average winds. I have it mounted on a 27′ pole with #10awg wire to the base where the power packs are located. The system runs my 16 – 11 volt deck lights, 2 strings of 100 LCD patio lights for a few hours at night, electronic bug zapper all day, charges all my rechargable tools, flashlights, camera batteries and has lots of power left available for runing small tools like my drill and weed wacker when needed.
